MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Floor Reinforcements

I stumbled across the attached pic of someone's restoration project and noticed the reinforcement pieces that run from the arched reinforcements at the top of the bulkhead, vertically down to the floor pans, then forward to the cross members in front of the seats. Were these eliminated in the MKIII? Or do I need to add them... my restoration project car didn't have them, and I don't recall ever seeing them on any parts diagrams I've looked at.

TS, don't worry about it, Guy is right, those were only necessary for the 1/4 elliptic cars.

They were deleted in March '64.

I agree. I have an early square arch 1275 Heritage shell. It doesn't have those pieces.

Actually, looking closely at that photo, it also looks like it has the cut away rear deck so it is either a MK1 midget/ MK2 Sprite, or one of the rare "modified rear deck" versions of a Frogeye that have been discussed on another recent thread. Either way, its the early suspension.

The extra box section along the floor isn't really a floor stiffener, but acts as torque reactor to the spring itself. Although I guess in practice it performs both functions.

Going back to that online gallary, this is what he said the Sprite looked like in '66.

this is back of it more recently...

Right, the quarter-elliptic rear springs feed the weight of the car entirely into the torque box behind the seats, in effect attempting to twist it toward the front of the car. Those reinforcements, in turn, feed that twist into the floor pan. They terminate at the front crossmember.
