MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Fitting type 9 to IOW frogeye

Hi
I am well versed in fitting Sierra type 9 gearboxes to Sprites / midgets having fitted one to every engine size (948 / 1098 / 1275 / 1500). But what of the IOW Frogeye. Has anyone out there fitted a type 9 Sierra Box to their 1275 engined Isle of Wight Frogeye.
JG has shown me a picture of the spaceframe and RC pictures of a Brian Archer conversion but has anyone got hands on experience of converting their own car.

As you haven't been inundated with replies I'll mention that whilst I didn't fit mine, it has a Frontline T9 in it. If there's anything I can help with I'll be happy to try.

Jordan, is that a special IOWfrog hornpushbutton on yours?
Arie de Best

Yes it's the Frogeye Car Company badge Arie.

Hi Jordan
Do you know where / if the spaceframe chassis has been reinforced? Would you have a picture of how the gearbox is supported. On a std Spridget when that central X member is cut there is a mass of steel in the body to stop the car folding but having looked at the picture of the bare spaceframe that you kindly posted I am not sure that there would be any strength left.
I am concerned that removing some of the central crossmember and welding in a bridging plate would not be strong enough.

Hi Alan

I had the IOW Factory demonstrator Super Sprite which had a 1275cc A series mated to a Ford MT75 gearbox.

Nice thing is that reverse is in the same place as on original Spridgets. I'm not sure why more owners don't use this box.

Have spoken to Keith Brading who manufactured the IOW Frogeye. Apparantly they only fitted the MT75 gearbox to factory cars - none were fitted with type 9s. They had special backplates and flywheels made.
