MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Fitting Peter May 2nd Link?

How did you reposition the brake hose, I've got braided hoses and they rub against the tyre on full lock!

I have run them through the inner wing, as close to the edge of the cut out section (clearance for the 2nd link) as I can get.

Best to add a bracket to carry the female pipe end, much like standard, but relocated?

Thanks

Andy,

The correct way is to loosen the union from both pipes on each side of the inner wing and play around with the orientation of the threads and the union so that when you have tightened the caliper end the hose bends so that it dosen't rub the wheel.
You could also try removing the caliper and rotating it so that the hose twists away from the wheel.

Thanks, John. After having to replace all the brake hard lines, a job I didn't expect, in the rain, I wasn't at full mental strength when I posted.
In fact, I even looked at some nice MX5s on Ebay after posting this message, but then I had a bath, a glass of wine and the thought of trying what you suggest occurred to me!

So not buying a MX5 just yet.

Andy,

Thank goodness that common sense prevailed!

After all, how could you survive without all the trials and tribulations of midget ownership if you had a nice sensible Mazda?!

I am on the last leg of an 18 month repair after coming to grief with a tyre wall at Castle Coombe. I am back there this Saturday to face my demons!

Best of luck with the brake lines

Laugh in their face, the demons that is.

Good luck.

A Borris,
i fitted spiral hose protectors to my aeroquip lines.
You can just see them in the photo.

I found that if you add a return spring to the spiral protectors attached to the inner wing, the tyre will always clear the hose.

The last 2 contributions are of course a solution but if the car needs an MoT then the inspector may not be too happy.

Always best to remove the hazard not just mitigate its consequence!

Doh! That's the Safety Engineer in me coming out!

I've run the car like this since 1972 - that's 26 MOT's and never had a comment.

I made up a bracket to fit the inner wing, to angle the hose so that it clears the wheel, have not gone digital yet, so don,t have a picture. One recommendation was to twist the hose at the inner wing end, by rotating the end fitting. I was not happy to do this, as an ex. aircraft engineer, we were always told not to twist hoses. In fact some used to have a black line down them so that you could see if they were twisted or not.
