MG Midget and Sprite Technical - fitting a drain / drain plug to fuel tank

Is it possible to retro fit a drain plug to a Spridget fuel tank. One possible solution would be to cut up a failed tank with one fitted to act as a donor? Does anyone know the original spec of these and as to whether it is available to purchase separately[I know the drain plug is]I believe the MGB drain plug fitting is 3/4". I note someone has completed this task on an MGB in the good old USA but I wonder if anone has successfully done so on a MG midget and would use the same method?

When I replaced the tank on my Frogeye, I cut out the original drain plug and welded it into the new tank. I couldn't find one after market so to speak.

why would you want a drain on a fuel tank ?

that said... id say a good hardware store would be a good place to find a water tight on off valve...a little imagination would go along way...my imediate thought would be a air compressor bleed valve on the bottom of the tank... it twist open to drain off condenstion and empty the air

btw... dont weld the tank ...id use some kind of epoxy or plumbers putty.

what I do to drain my tank which is easy, fast and simple....I take the fuel hose off the carbs before the filter then add a few feet of hose and direct it into a gas can and then just turn the key to the on position... it takes about 10 minutes to drain a full tank of fuel

good idea Prop, i never thought of that, i need to remove my tank this weekend and will do as you suggest...
However, i do actually have a drain plug on my tank, it looks standard... although the tank has been messed around with by PO to make it smaller... but even with the drain plug it still leaves about 2 litres in the tank...
