MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Favourite midget

Hi all,
I'm moving towards getting my midget resprayed am thinking of coulour schemes.
The car is a 1970 1275 and will have a speedwell monza one piece front.
My current thought is old english White with red interior and possibly a blue central stripe although this may be a butt OTT.
Pictures to illustrate your answer would be great.
Cheers

Colour is not important!

When I bought my midget I thought it is perfecy exept for the colour primrose ( though it was horrid )
After 1,5 years respray time came around and the colour had grown on me!
So back with the primrose it was.

So while I love
Almond green
Dove grey
Ice berg (blueishgrey)
Or what ever paint the car the colour that feels good!
Onno Könemann

Pale blue (is it powder blue?) - see Pieter Bakker's race car

I am with David pale blue

I Have an MGA that is Iris blue and I love it. A mate of mine used to have an iris blue pull handle MGB that was absolutely stunning
Some special edition MGFs were done in a similar colour (wedgewood)and are at present much sought after.

I think a Midget would be great in a similar colour

Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo

ahh... the wedgewood blue MGF, my sister has one (albeit in storage) I agree, nice colour.

Malcolm
M Le Chevalier

I'm with Bob, pale blue on a midget looks great, mine is iris blue (mgb colour)

John Collins

Powder Blue & white hood

"My current thought is old english White with red interior and possibly a blue central stripe although this may be a butt OTT"

I don't have the red interior and there are two stripes but you'd need to ask him if he wants an older twin.

OTT - I hope so!

Andrew Dunn

OEW?? Looks Glacier White to me ... like the blue stripes.

TROLL....HAHAHA

You will get as many answers as people, what is the pefect kitchen color, whats the est food of all time, whats the prettiest girl ever, ect ect

As a painter, keep the concept simple a primary color a 2nd color that accounts for 1/3 of the primary color and a 3 rd color that is a splash of accent,,,normally that is your chrome and silver metal pieces and screws/bolts
Prop

SO perhaps white with a red interior or white with a black interior and a blue stripe?

Tim,
If you are not going to Nidget50, then you should be! You will get the best possible opportunity there to see just about every colour combination imaginable - the perfect way of helping your indecision!
Guy

Should be going. Need to take some pictures of a 1970 midget to help the rebuild. Would really like to have a ride in one as well as I have never been in a moving midget.

My 1275 is painted in Iris blue, the original turquoise was vile! The gulf logo's were for Le Mans and made of magnetic stickers! Some might say it's sacrilage to change the colour, but there were some 70's colours that you just couldn't live with. This is the right colour for an earlier Midget or Sprite. Let me know what you think!

Robin Cohen

The purists are going to hate me for this but mine's going to be..... wait for it....

candy Apple red.

So far I've only painted the boot, inner rear wings and inside the arches plus some of the bolt on bits - dashboard, radiator surround, splash panels etc. just starting to do the filling and sanding now that it's getting warmer in scotland. Hopefully I'll have the whole car in paint before the end of july.

Pic shows the boot just after painting...

I'm about to paint mine - and becuase it's mine and it's not original -K series - 1500 shell with RWA added, 1275 rear light bumps? and bumper area cut out and welded up - I'm painting mine Lamborgini ballon white, but using a Lexus Micra frost pearl for the base white. a wide middle stripe in metallic audi grey which the engine bay has already been sprayed in - with a red strip down the centre of that!! (current plan anyway - seems to be changing on a daily basis!)

Graeme - what paint are you using is it HOK??

Jon
Jon White

LOL Graeme - at least you live in Lothian, so not much chance of the sun shining and blinding everyone!!!

I was quite impressed by your colour when you last showed it. I do love some of the newer colours and effects that you can get.
rachmacb

Ha! thanks Rachel. - I wish i could have painted the car last friday - the sun was out and it was really hot - would have saved the heaters in the garage ;-)

Jon - it's specialist paints candy. www.specialistpaints.com worked out about half the price of HoK. I used their 1 litre kit for the boot and have a 5 litre kit for the rest of the car - for that you get 5 litres of base, 5 litres of colour and 5 litres of clear plus the relevant thinners for the paint and hardener for the clear.

Primers are from Paints4u.com .. fix-o-dur for the etch and I'll be using their green TI high build primer once I've finished the filling. Both 2K.

Speaking of Powder Blue (or similar), one of the best-looking MGBs I've ever seen was in attendance at MG2003. See pic below. I thought the color suited this early model beautifully! BTW, the judges really liked it too... I seem to recall that it took a number of awards.

As for white with blue stripes, keep in mind that that combo was the American racing colors (back when we all had national racing colors). Cunninghams always looked great in white/blue.

My Midget's black, courtesy of a PO, and I can never keep it clean enough. Ironically, my 2010 Cooper S in BRG has the same problem... looks stellar when freshly washed, but it never stays clean for long. :-(

Gryf Ketcherside

Painted mine this weekend

TS Smith

...or, you can paint it the same as almost all of the other ones, red with black interior!

(here's mine)

Norm "Mr. Originality" Kerr

(no, the workshop is not really big, it is just that the cars are so small)

Norm Kerr

A few years ago I changed from russet brown to damask red - perhaps a bit boring compared to the ones with go-faster stripes.
Still very happy with it, but today I might go for nightfire red, I think its called - a sort of metallic damask red.

The car of TS Smith looks fantastic

The MGB in Iris Blue? looks Great except for the whitewall tyres which are well over the top for us with European tastes. Looks like an early pull handle is it Gryf?

I think the tyres with like a white pinstripe on the wall look pretty good and is a good compromise for those of us who have slightly more subtle tastes. :)
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo

iris blue, though mine was cherry red to start with.

RUS(59SPRITE)

Have to say TS Smith your midget paint job looks fantastic would love to see the finished article.
C Carter

Thank you Bob and C Carter for your compliments, I'll post more pics as the project progresses. Should have it on the ground this weekend.

Then engine/transmission install.
