MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Engine mount vibration - Update

This is an update on a thread I started last autumn.

I changed the engine mounts on my 1275 74 midget, replacing the original parts with new ones. The result was a serious vibration that made the car very unpleasant to drive.

A second pair of new ones was tried. These were better but the car still was not like it was before the change.

I have just fitted a pair of "New old stock" mounts purchased on Ebay. The change was dramatic, the car is now as smooth as it used to be and once again a delight to drive.

Great news and just in time for the big trip.

It looks like I will have to remove the engine again as the clutch release bearing seems faulty so I will fit my 'ebay Italian purchase' mounts at the same time.

Mike,

I had exactly the same experience when I changed the engine mounts 2 years ago. Not only did I get a bad vibration around 5000rpm, but also a nasty drivetrain rumble at 70/75mph.

Just replaced the 'new' mounts that were bullet hard, with 'NOS' mounts from Italy on eBay, and like you the transformation is amazing!

I wonder how many NOS mounts the Italian source has?

What is the problem with the clutch release Doug?
