MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Door Mirrors
I've given up on the quarterlight mirror i intended using - came off twice ! (in the garage)they used to work - repro parts i presume ? So finally investing in door mounted mirrors (standard Tex type)- can anyone confirm the correct measurements i.e from door edge to plinth and how far down from top edge etc before i drill the new doors. I should have checked the donor car doors before sending it off to make KIA's ! Thanks, Richard.

If you really want to make sure the mirrors stay on and don't vibrate, use a T-nut inside the door. They are used in woodworking and have some prongs coming from the - and running parallell with the I part of the T nut. Grip the prong with some long needlenose pliers and insert them in between the glass and the outer door skin. Run a couple of machine screws into the nut and the mirrors are now on tighter than a drum! Far superior to the original system. Oh, by the way, I found that the current plastic mounting parts have different spaced holes than the originals! Another reason to use the nuts as you don't need to drill new holes if you have holes there to begin with.

Richard, where in Avon are you? I've a couple of mirror equipped cars in my garden in Bromham, near Devizes if you want to motor out and measure them. Max - get me on email at max-at-midgetmax-dot-com

Hi Richard, I found this in the archive posted by Steve Clarke "The exact position according to me - after exhaustive research looking at Horler, original brochures, other books, photos of my 2 Midgets from the 70's, photos on websites etc. - and coming to the conclusion that there is no definitive position. If you don't want the picture - centres of my 2 holes are 55mm down from the top of the door. Along that line extended horizontally - 240 mm and 294 mm back from the leading edge of the door. Trust me." regards Mark

Max, Thanks for the offer - weather not spridget friendly at present ! - i am actually in Clevedon, North Somerset - the BBS seems to want to revive the old Avon area - i have altered it before but occasionally seems to revert ! Mirrors arrived but without the special spridget chrome plinths - so waiting further delivery. Thanks for al the help. Richard.
