MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Dissy Modification...FReakin COOL!!!

I stumbled across this a few minutes ago....to convert a Jap dist for to an A-seris engine...absolutly cool....has anyone done this??

Im also looking for the artical for modifying the lucas dist to use a ball bearing set on the shaft instead of its current set up to keep the dist. from wearing out and getting all wobbley....anyone know of that artical/tech tip??...where I can find it??

Im not doing this modication as I already have a duel point mallory dist. for the new engine, but I like to keep up with whats going on.

Prop, I believe that Vizard has a roller bearing mod in the ignition section of his 'bible'.

Well I hate to burst your bubble but using these distributors on an A or B motor will not fly.

The length of the shaft and dog gear is too short. You can chuck up the housing and face the bottom a bit but still you will not get the correct length so as to engage and capture the skew gear top plate.

With the shorter length, the shaft cannot fully engage the hole in the skew gear plate and thus it will wobble and oscillate and over time will self destruct.
NLA

WOW nla,

thanks for the report, Im guessing this is the result of "recent" personal experiance???

So fill us in on some of the details, is the engine still okay?

Prop,
Haven't you figured out yet that anonymous opinions are worth diddlysquat? If it worked for Marcel Chichak, it is probably a viable option. I think I would go for one of the pertronix dizzies rather than all the work necessary to prep one of these Hitachis, but if I had a machine shop...
