MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Clutch Master Cylinder Seals

Hi, Can someone confirm that I have a part missing from my clutch master cylinder piston assembly. See pictures. Its Part 94 in the diagram. I don't normally make this kind of mistake but the kit supplied is for both 'groove' and plain type and did not include this part. I certainly don't remember taking it off when striping and I kept all old parts. I bought a peal box assembly complete from eBay so not sure of original condition.

Thanks

Si

The diagram, and BTW what does 94 do?

Also you can see that I've got an extra piece which locates the spring on the end of the piston which is not shown on either type diagrams. I just wondered whether I've got a different model. Si

Part 94 is the dust cover. It does nothing apart from stop dust and other debris getting into the cylinder. The master cylinder will work fine without it but will have a shorter life and I would not recommend it. A new set of seals including the dust cover is only a fiver. Best to replace them. Check that the bore of the cylinder is ok first not scored and the sides are parallel.

Good luck

LOL...oops my mistake. Its the plastic collar at the extreme right hand end of the spring I'm refering to. All the kit items have the number 94.

I too started from the right and stopped when I got to the first 94!
I don't know what that bit is for. Are you sure it is not stuck at the end of the cylinder? I am sure it is supplied with a new seal kit though.

Are you sure that isn't for the brake master cylinder?
I've just done the seal kits on both of mine, and only the brake has that part on it.

And the brake master cylinder dismantled...

The plastic bit that fits in the end of the spring, has a valve in it.

(I should add, this is on a '77 1500)

Ok, your clutch master cylinder is identical to mine, i.e. the non groove type, and your seals and positions are exactly the same so I'm happy that I have the right configuration. Thanks DH. Just need to get it back in the car now.

Sounds like a good plan.
I've not put mine back together yet, but am reasonably confident that it should work ok. I seem to recall there was something in the description that suggested I had the right parts for the age of my car.
I do see that the other master cylinder does have that valve in the catalogue though... I'm sure it'll be fine!
