MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Carburettor balancing?
Hi, After rebuilding my 1 1/2" su carbs on my 1500, I now need to balance them. Can anyone recommend a good carb balancer for this or am I better off doing the old listen through a length of tube scenario? Bearing in mind I don't want to spend an excesive ammount. Thanks Kevin |

I personally think the rubber hose is fine....you can clearly hear the differance in sound tone......Ive have and tried the ash tray balancer....Im not a big fan...I can never get the same readings twice prop |

Disconnect the throttle link connection at each carb, adjust the mixture per the manual, set idle speed / air flow using a uni syn (see link), reconnect throttle linkage. I've used this for years on both street & race tune ups with excellent results. The carbs are not as difficult to set up as most horror stories would lead you to believe. http://www.minimania.com/web/Item/UNI-SYN/AddedFrom/CatBrowse-%20TOOLS/InvDetail.cfm |

If you're tone deaf then the tube method sucks. ;-) I used to use one of the little gunson floating ball things. http://www.gunson.co.uk/item.aspx?item=1813&cat=675 Then I relised my twins were so badly worn they needed serious money spoending....and I changed to a HIF44. Wouldn't go back..... |
