MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Carb Tuning Rods

When I can get back to Devon I have to sort an MGB that has been stored for years.

Nigel kindly sent me a sketch of the tuning rods for balancing twins and rather than bend up rods I was thinking of machining a couple of stubs that just sit on the pistons with the shorter 'L'rods soldered into them.

Can anybody assist with the internal dia of the piston (where the damper goes in ?
Both for HS2 and HS4 as I don't have easy access to either at present. The idea is to make up a set for both midget and B. Wall thickness of the piston tube would be useful as well.

(I'm currently running an HIF6 and the bore on that is about 8.6mm)

Thanks,

R.

Hi Richard

I've just measured a HS2 piston. ID is 0.3425", although the internal jaws on my calipers might be a bit worn. The OD is 0.499" and wall thickness is 0.080"

If you subtract wall thickness x2 from OD, you get 0.339", which is about 8.61mm

I didn't have a HS4 to hand, but a HS6 measured roughly the same, without removing the dashpot.

Thanks Dave
I've just checked the Burlen book and a 1275 Midget and a '72 B both have the same Damper AUC8114 so 8.6mm it is !
