MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Breather on gearbox

I remember I once have seen a description on how to mount a breather on a 1275 midget gearbox to avoid high preasure in the gearbox.
Does anyone have a description / opinion on this?

Drill a hole in the gearbox oil filler plug, stick a piece of brake pipe into it, slip a piece of rubber hose on the end and coil it. You now have a breather that won't suck in dust and you can refit the plug more easily. If you are leaking too much oil, how about running the hose to the air filter box to create a small vacuum?
