MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 67 Midget oil gauge connection

I just purchased a 67 midget with a 1275 engine. At some time a PO disconnected the oil pressure and temp gauge. I have purchased a NOS gauge but I don't see where to run a line from the block. Can someone please tell me where the line connects at the block and the size of the tubing?

Joe M

Joe,

Welcome to the board.

The oil pressure line attaches to the block on the right side of the engine behind the distributor and in front of the the pipe that goes from the side of the engine to the filter housing. There should be a fitting that gets a copper tube attached to it and then the hose that attaches to the line from the gauge. I don't know the size but the block fitting is item 29 on the attached page. I'm sure someone else will be along soon to answer that part of your question.

Either get a Victoria British or Moss Motors catalog or go on-line and they will have lots of information as to what goes where. Also get a manual, Haynes or Bentley. And feel free to ask all of the questions you have here. You'll always get an answer.

Hi Joe
Happens I have just replaced the tubing on my oil pressure gauge take-off, and had to re-solder the nipple onto the pipe.
Photograph shows the small pipe with nipple soldered on the end and the nut to secure it to an adaptor screwed into the engine block, just above the oil pressure relief valve cover.

Here is a photo of the pipe screwed to the engine and connected to the short hose that connects it to the tube from the pressure gauge.

Thanks for your replies. That is where I thought it went. The car came with both manuals mentioned, but I couldn't find a picture of the fitting. I have ordered the nut and tubing piece. Thanks.
