MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 5 SPEED 1500 CONVERSTION

HI as per the-wizardsden.com web site I have had a converstion plate made from his plans by one of my friends. It works great. I have now contacted the company he works for and they are prepared to do a run of these plates made in alloy. The cost is £165 each, plus postage or you can pick up. front line sprite want £265.22 for there convertion plate on it's own. Thats a £100 saving. So is there any one out there interested before I pay £4125 to have these plates made. If there is enough interest I will go ahead. Check out the wizards web site and see how he has done it.

sorry forgot to add the minimum run on these is 25 hence the price I will have to pay £4125

How did you manage to contact him (wizards den) as I emailed with no reply as I was after the drawing myself.

I certainly wouldn’t pay £265 from frontline for what is essentially a flat plate with minimal machining, I could be interested in yours but its still a fair old whack, lets see how much interest there is first before I decide.

Be careful.

We have just had a 1500 Spitfire (with a 5 speed 'box conversion) in which had a Wizards Den adapter plate.

The clutch would not release because the adapter plate was out of spec'. We has to resolve the issue by shimming between the 'box and the adapter plate.

I'd also add that it would be a good idea to have the adapter plate made from aluminium plate or a heat treated aluminium casting. Aluminium, as cast, can be weak, soft and gummy, and machine like sh*t, so not ideal for the adapter plate.

In answer to D Tetly, I've had the plans for a while and the guy who made my plate has them at the moment but I will get them sent back to me and if you want I will send you copies. The plate made for me was done from a block of alloy. My mate Daz was working for Maclaren racing team in the workshop making parts for the F1 team cars. He has now moved to a company in scotland due to getting married and it's the new firm that will be making them, this company still makes some parts for the F1 team. I've just E-mailed him to confirm what the plate will be made from and will update the link as soon as he replies. I'm sure if it's good enough for a F1 car it's will be upto the job on our 1500 midget. I'll try and get photo's on here at the weekend.
