MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1500 fuel pump: poss leaking
| Guys - 1500 midget, 1976. There was an increasing whiff of petrol under the bonnet and investigation found petrol dampness on the underside of the fuel pump. I replaced both of the 3inch (length) rubber in/out fuel lines with new clips. The dampness was still evident o the underside of the pump. The pump is manufactured in two parts. The pressed steel upper housing seems to be crimped/swaged to the alloy bottom housing. I notice that it is possible to slightly rotate the entire upper part of the body - ie the swaged joint isn't totally rigid. Is it possible for petrol to leak out of the swaged joint? I can't see where else petrol can be seeping from: the rubber fuel line(s) have been replaced and the filter 'dome' outlet housing joint is dry (on top of the pump). Thanks. |

| I have had exactly that problem, try pressing down on the pump while it is running. I replaced mine with an electric pump. Carl |
