MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1098 vs 1275 Waterpump
Can anyone provide the outside diameter of the waterpump inlet for either a 1275 or 1098? I recently picked up a MkII midget fitted with a 1275 and the original down flow radiator. Need to replace the generic lower hose with the proper molded replacement, but not sure which I need. Thanks, James

measured inlet on a 10cc/cg and its 1 1/8" o.d. I think all the pumps are the same sizing ...the difference lies in the pulley flange offset.

Thanks for the replies! Any idea why Moss offers two different lower hoses - 1098 vertical flow and 1275 vertical flow? If the pump and radiator are the same, what is the difference? Is it the 1/2" taller 1275 block? I guess I will order the latter, since that is my current configuration.

Moss appear to offer 2 hoses in the UK catalogue for the vertical flow rad cars - one for cast iron water pumps and for alloy water pumps. However, they both have the same part number. I think you'll find the cast iron water pump had a slightly different diameter to the alloy water pumps. How many cast iron water pumps are still around? So, I suggest the issues is whether the pump is iron or alloy and then fit the same hose anyway. Anyone for Silicone hoses for Crossflow rad cars?

Interesting! Moss USA lists different part numbers/prices. The Moss Europe website also lists two, but as you say, lists one for "steel" and one for alloy pumps. Thanks to all for your assistance, I will order the alloy pump version. Regards, James H

There is also the hose for cars without the heater - again I think iron and alloy pumps.
